Muscle building supplements - are they really
necessary?
What are the best muscle building
supplements?
These are the questions that were asked most of the time.
Well, if you too are waiting for an answer on this, then you
will be glad that you can now save hundreds if not thousands of
dollars that you may have spent on stuffing your cabinets with
bottles and packs of vitamins.
"What, you mean to say that I don't need supplements at
all?"
Yes, that's right.
Contrary to what you must have been told many times by many
"experts", it's really not an absolute neccessity for you
to take supplements for muscle building.
You see, in bodybuilding or muscle building, you are advised
to eat a healthy balance diet. As long as you are following
this advise, then you would have gotten all the necessary
nutrients, vitamins and minerals from the foods you eat. People
on a poor diet would more appropriately use supplements but why
should you be eating a poor diet if you are serious enough to
build up a lean, healthy body.
Most people simply do not know that nothing is better than
natural nutrition. Synthetic vitamins can not be compared to
the natural vitamins that we obtain from foods. In fact studies
have shown that some synthetic vitamins and minerals may not be
easily and fully absorbed by our body. Just imagine that part
of what you are spending hundreds of dollars on is passed out
as waste. What is even worst is that overdosing from consuming
synthetic supplements may happen. For example vitamin E when
taken in excess may be accumulated in the body leading to
toxicity. Interaction between some vitamins and minerals may
also occur leading to reduced absorption or adverse
effects.
However, if you are really a vitamin pill popper and
strongly felt that vitamins do help in one way or another, then
the only supplements that I could possibly think of that may
help you build up those muscles faster is creatine.
Creatine is a performance enhancing supplement. It is has
two important functions for bodybuilders.
First, creatine increases the size, or volume of muscle
cells, which is the amount of water each cell can hold. This
slight expansion of each cell causes the entire muscle to
expand which triggers even further muscle growth.
The second important function of creatine is that it
provides muscle cells with immediate energy in the form of ATP
(Adenosine triphosphate), which is absolutely essential to
perform bodybuilding exercises. Having extra ATP within the
muscle cells will allow you to perform more repetitions than
you normally could, which translates into greater muscle
growth.
Unfortunately, creatine is only effective for about 70% of
athletes and bodybuilders. Those who do not respond to creatine
may already produce enough creatine phosphate in their muscles
that supplementing with creatine does not make much
difference.
