Advantage Flea Treatment
Advantage is manufactured by Bayer and is marketed as flea drop for both dogs and cats. The active ingredient, Imidocloprid has a rapid effect in killing fleas.
The reason why Advantage flea treatment is popular among pet owners is because of this rapid effect. It is able to kill fleas on dogs and cats within 12 hours of application with a 98% - 100% wipe-out and hence provide an almost immediate relief to affected cats and dogs.
Another benefit in using Advantage flea control is the fact that application is very convenient. Unlike sprays where you would probably need to apply it through the entire body, the single stick of the tiny bit of solution of advantage need only to be applied directly to a spot between the shoulder blade of your dog or cat. Well, this mean less struggling and less traumatizing to your pet, especially cats.
Advantage spot-on when applied are being absorbed into the root of the hair follicles. It's distribution to the entire body is assisted by body movement. Hence, you would see that for an active pet, the distribution would be faster and kills fleas on the entire body faster. For an old or sick dog or cat, movement may be restricted and hence action of the advantage flea drop may be delayed. Since it is not adsorbed into the blood stream, it may be one reason why advantage is relatively safe and adverse side effects is rarely reported.
Retreatment with Advantage is recommended to be on a monthly basis and since it is not water resistant, frequent bathing may wash off a fair bit of it and retreatment may need to be more frequent usually once every 2 weeks to a month. It is suitable for use on Dogs and puppies > 7 weeks of age Cats and kittens > 8weeks old. However, there are no reports on whether it's safe on pregnant or nursing mother dog or cat
Advantage comes in different pack sizes for both dogs and cats. Depending on the body weight of your dog or cat, a different pack size can be used. There are a number of online suppliers where you can purchase one that is suitable for your dog and cat.
