Frontline is considered safe to be use on dogs and puppies more than 10 weeks old and cats and kittens more than 12 weeks of age. It is also safe for use on sick, elderly and debilitated pets provided they are on medical treatment as well. However, it must be noted that because of the restricted movement of such pets, the spread of Frontline around the whole body may not be as rapid as usual. The onset of action may hence be longer than usual.
Here is a brief description of each type of frontline flea treatment available. Choose a type that is most suited for your pet based on the following comparison.
Frontline Spray

Frontline spray is recommended for multi-pets household. One bottle of frontline spray could be use to treat up to 10 cats or 2-3 dogs and hence is much more economical for the pet owner. This is usually what vets uses for a quick flea treatment in the clinics.
Direction for use:
- Alway remember to wear gloves when applying the spray onto your pets
- With one hand holding the bottle, the other will ruffle the coat of the animals and applying the spray mist to the back, sides, tummy, shoulders, legs and neck.
- Do not spray the mist directly to areas around the eyes and head as you may risk getting the insecticide into your pet's eyes and mouth. For these areas, simply spray some of the frontline onto a gloved hand and then rub the areas with your hand.
- Spray till the coat is damp.
A word of caution: Though effective and economical, use of frontline spray may be too stressful on some animals especially cats who simply hate the spray. The alcohol base in the spray may also cause skin irritation in some animals. It is also a lot messier and is not recommended for those with asthma and respiratory disorders.
Frontline top spot has the same effect as the spray except for the fact that application is much easier. Instead of spraying all over the body of your pet, you only need to apply a single applicator of frontline top spot on to the skin between the shoulder blades as a single spot. As such, using this is much more convenient and also less stressful to pets especially cats. One applicator is for one treatment only.
Some pets may develop a local skin irritation at the site of application. If this persist or become more serious after a few days, consult your veterinarian.
Frontline plus offers a more complete flea and tick treatment for pets. It contains Methoprene an ingredient that is absent in both the spray and top spot form. Methoprene is able to kill fleas in the egg and larvae form in addition to killing the adult fleas and ticks.
It also comes in conveniently pack form which are applied directly onto the skin between the shoulder blades.
