Program Flea Control
Program flea control comes in an oral tablet for dogs and cats. It contains an active ingredient called Lufenuron which acts as a growth inhibitor to the fleas. The female fleas who fed on the dog treated with program will lay eggs that will failed to develop into larvae. The whole life cycle of the fleas will be interrupted resulting in long term, very effective flea control on the animal as well as the environment. However, it does not actually kill adult fleas.
Program flea tablet are best used in a prophylactic way (preventive way). As such, treatment should begin in spring before the beginning of the flea season in summer and to be repeated on a monthly basis throughout the flea season. The tablet can be given all year round.
In the event that flea infestation is already present, it's best that program flea tablet be given orally and the pets treated externally with a flea spray or spot-on like Advantix, Revolution, Advantage or Frontline. In this way, the co-ordinated attack will be on all life stages of the flea and the effect will be much better.
The tablet must be given together with food to improves the absorption of the tablet and one should preferably give it around the same time each month. The tablet is flavoured and palatable which makes administration easy. Alternatively, you could also crush the tablet and add them to their food. However, when added to food, make sure that you separate your pets (if you have more than 1) so that you can be sure that each has taken the required dose as directed.
For cats, program is available in a suspension form.
The dosage given is dependent of the weight of your dog and cat. You could check out on the different strength and pack sizes available
