Revolution Flea Treatment

Revolution is a product in flea control treatment marketed by Pfizer and is the first flea control medicine that provides protection against heartworm. The active ingredient in revolution flea treatment is Selamectin.

Selamecin has a wide spectrum of activities against a number of parasites. It kills fleas in both the adult and larvae stages as well as ticks. It is also active against ear mites, sarcoptic mange mites in dogs, roundworm and hookworms in cats.

Beside killing fleas, revolution helps to protect cats and dogs from heartworm, ticks, ear mites and a number of intestinal worms like hookworms and roundworm.

Application of Revolution flea medicine is easy and very convenient. It comes in a small solution pack which is applied between the shoulder blades. It dries up fast and is non-greasy. The solution is rapidly absorbed through the skin and enters into the blood stream. This is why revolution is able to kill off the intestinal parasites. The selamectin then redistribute to the skin oil glands and this serve to kill any fleas and ticks that bites on the animal. Revolution is able to kill fleas within 48 hours and its activity can last for up to 0ne month. Hence, only once a month application is required.

Revolution is an endectocide, which means it is absorbed internally and spreads throughout the body including back to the skin. Because it acts internally it cannot be washed off. The pet can be bath as soon as it is dry.

Revolution is suitable for use on dogs, puppies, cats & kittens > 6 weeks of age . it is also approved for use on pregnant and nursing mother dogs and cats. However, it is not recommended for sick, weak, or underweight animals, and, as with any pet meds, we always recommend visiting with your veterinarian first to determine if revolution is the right product for your specific dog or cat.

As with many heartworm products, revolution flea heartworm control requires a prescription for a very important reason, pets should be tested for heartworm infection before starting any monthly heartworm regimen. This is because heartworm pet medication can actually do more harm than good if your pet already has heartworm when they take them. Therefore, a heartgard heartworm prevention program should be started only in pets found to be uninfected with heartworm to start with.
